Use online appointment system, POEA tells balik-manggagawa

THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration yesterday called on overseas Filipino workers returning to their overseas jobs or balik-manggagawa to use the agency’s online appointment system in processing their exit clearances or overseas employment certificates.
POEA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said OFWs using the appointment system can have their OECs processed in their own schedule and would be spared of the expected long lines of workers at the POEA offices who want to go back to their job sites after spending the holiday season in the country.
The POEA has counters at its main office in Mandaluyong City, Duty Free Philippines in Parañaque City, SM Manila and Trinoma in Quezon City, to accommodate the OFWs who choose to get their exit clearances at a specific date and time.
Regular processing of OECs at the main office starts at 7 o’clock in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.
The processing time at the other sites are as follows — Duty Free (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Trinoma (9a.m. to 6 p.m., and SM Manila (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
On the other hand, workers without appointments who arrive at the POEA towards noon are likely to experience longer waiting time as they will be considered for the second batch to be processed in the afternoon.
Thus, Cacdac encourages OFWs to come early for their convenience.
The documentary requirements for returning workers are the following: 1) Passport valid for 6 months from time of departure; 2) Valid working visa/work permit; 3) Proof of employment such as certificate of employment, company ID, pay slip, and other equivalent document.
The appointment service is free and is available at bmappointmentpoea.gov.ph.
