Reports said the incident occurred at around  6 p.m. on April 1 near the Escalante City Public Market.

Investigators said the victims riding in an XLR 200 motorcycle were on their way to the market when they were ambushed by at least eight NPA rebels led by certain “Dan.”

Lutrago sustained  a gunshot wound in the head that caused his instantaneous death while Tanguan died shortly after he returned fire.

Mabanta extended his deepest and sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of the victims.

“We extend our deepest and sincerest condolences to the bereaved families. The killing made by the NPA is a worst form of tactical offensive. It was done with treachery and goes to show how heartless they are,” he said.
